[geseBo - english version]
The choice of occupation is an important factor for all subsequent steps and (career) chances on the labour market. And thereby we can still observe
big differences between women and men. Gender-sensitive occupational choice within schools is therefore a major concern of the Territorial Employment
Pact (TEP) in Lower Austria.

As gender-specific disparities in the labour market emerge from the career choices, geseBo held workshops during winter-semester 2003/04 in two secondary
schools in Lower Austria (Langenlois and Weiterfeld). Within these we were trying to sensitise girls and boys for the possible consequences of a career
choice as well as to give them broader perspectives for their future plans.
Before the first workshop the pupils had to do a short questionnaire to get to know in which phase they are in their process of career choice, and if there are any gender-specific disparities to be found. geseBo questionnaire (in german) - geseBo Fragebogen (Word-doc) geseBo results of the inquiry (in german) - geseBo-Ergebnisse der Befragung (Word-doc) In each school three workshops had then been carried out: The First Workshop is a sensitisation-workshop divided into three parts: The first part is a fact-quiz on the labour market, in which the pupils should learn about the differences of women and men in various vocational situations. In the second part pupils deal with the professional situation of their parents which should further highlight the actual labour market segregation. The third part is the “24 hours clock”, the future life planning of the girls and boys. In the Drama Workshop pupils get the chance to personate professions and to play roles which are gender-untypical (in cooperation with sog-theater). The focus of the Third Workshop was on companies/enterprises. After a second fact quiz the personal manager of DYNEA Austria, Andrea Linsmeier, was invited as a guest. She presented DYNEA and reported on unusual careers of women, e.g. in a laboratory or in the production of a chemical plant. Another topic of this workshop are company measures to improve and/or achieve equal opportunities. All three workshop had been documented and observed, feedbacks from pupils and teachers had been gathered, too. To secure sustainability, geseBo should be incorporated into the further education of vocational teachers. This is the main focus of our activities for 2004. The first step was a workshop in autumn 2003 with students of the pedagogical institute (Pädak archdiocese St. Pölten) in Krems. After that an inquiry of the students had been carried out. geseBo questionnaire Pädak (in german) - gesebo Fragebogen Pädak (pdf) geseBo workshops and results (in german) - geseBo-Workshops und Ergebnisse (Word-doc) |
